This is the start of our 2 year-long Comenius adventure. 20 European teachers and 135 French pupils met in Villenave d'Ornon to work, have fun and learn together. .
SCHOOL VISIT and SCHOOL EXHIBITION
This visit was an opportunity for the visiting staff to see and experience what school in France is like. They observed the classes, visited our school and garden, exchanged with the students and displayed the work of their students for an exhibition evening at school.
This term, we have worked on geography: the students have led outdoor learning activities and made "street packs" presenting their works and their own local environment.
On Monday night, all the French pupils and parents were invited to the French school to visit the exhibition and discovered their children's works and what school in Northern Ireland, England, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Turkey and Spain is like.(Have a look at our Street pack section!)
It was a very good moment of sharing... Everybody enjoyed good European food, nice displays and Mr Greer and Mrs Floyd's national costumes! :-D

TEACHING TIMES
Not only the visiting staff visited the classrooms but they also taught in 2 different classes.
The English teachers explained the story of Guy Fawkes and helped the pupils make Guy Fawkes' characters with cardboard, glue and scissors.
The Polish teachers taught our pupils how to say basic words in Polish and they told the story of Krak, the dragon of Krakow.
The Swedish teachers displayed a Powerpoint presentation of their school and sang a song.
The Irish teachers presented the story of Finn and the Scottish giant. They taught the "Apple song" and helped he children play with a giant parachute.
The Spanish teachers held a mathematics class. Teachers in Cadiz developed the ABN method. Our Y3 and Y4 students tried to add, subtract and divide using this very interesting method.
The Turkish teachers played the flute and taught a song in Turkish.
The German teachers showed how their pupils built lanterns and explained the legend of Saint Martin who is very important in Germany.

INAUGURATION OF THE FIRST FRENCH ROUNDABOUT NAMED AFTER JAN COMENIUS
The mayor of our city agreed to name the roundabout near our school "Jan Comenius roundabout" as a tribute to this very important pedagogue.
Our head teacher and the mayor opened the plaque. The youngest pupils and the eldest pupil of our school planted the tree while all the students sang the European anthem.

OUTDOOR VISIT of our BORDEAUX REGION
The visiting staff had the opportunity to discover our region: they used their very good sense of orienteering to find their way through the narrow streets of our city. They walked along the Garonne quays, visited the main places (Grosse Cloche, place de la Victoire, rue Sainte Catherine, place des Quinconces, pont de Pierre...) and they enjoyed our carrousel and cannelés.
Some discovered the "Bassin d'Arcachon". Others visited famous wine places: Saint Emilion and château Latour Martillac.

MASCOTS AND LOGO
As we are launching our project we've had to chose a common logo for our learning outdoor project and we've had to create a national mascot for each country.
Our mascots met in Bordeaux for the first time: Karagöz and Hacivat (the Turkish shadow puppets), the Spanish dolphin, the Polish stork, Lasse Britta (the Swedish bear), Hugo (the Northern Irish hedgehog), Mortimer (the English dragon) and Rico (the French Eiffel Tower). You will see them perform in our animation film in September 2014.
All schools designed a logo and the coordinators voted in Bordeaux: Our Comenius logo was designed by Polish students. You can see on our main page. Congratulations to our Polish partners!!
